If you’re looking for ways to pay it forward this holiday season, look no further! We’ve rounded up a quick list of local charities and food drives that directly help the people of Chicago. Read on to find out how you can help our community this November.

Greater Chicago Food Depository

You might remember President Obama volunteering at this major food pantry in Chicago during his presidency! The Greater Chicago Food Depository is one of the biggest food banks in Chicago, with more than 700 partners across Cook County. This incredible organization is committed to ending hunger and its root causes, including racial inequity. They provide life-changing programs and services such as food pantries/mobile services, job training, community outreach, children’s programs, older adult programs, and veterans’ programs. You can learn more about this non-profit and how you can help fight food insecurity on their website and on social media.   


 Lakeview Pantry

Lakeview Pantry is a non-profit organization that was founded 50 years ago! This group not only organizes food drives but also provides invaluable Mental Wellness Services and Social Services from licensed clinicians and social workers. For every $1 you donate, Lakeview Pantry can provide 8 meals to people going hungry right now. Providing donations, food, or volunteering your time is all greatly appreciated.  Common Pantry

Common Pantry is another fantastic charity to donate to this November. During 2019 they served 300 families every month on average and donated 287,387 pounds of food. They collecting now for their annual Common Kids Holiday Drive and working with Jewel Food Stores to prepare Thanksgiving Meals for folks in need.
